Objectives of the Green Ration Card
The Telangana government introduced the Green Ration Card primarily to achieve the following objectives:
Provide Access to Affordable Food: The Green Ration Card ensures that families living below the poverty line (BPL) have access to essential food items like rice, wheat, sugar, and kerosene at subsidized prices. This is intended to help reduce food insecurity and improve the nutritional status of economically disadvantaged families.
Target the Poorest Households: The Green Ration Card specifically targets households that are most in need of assistance, ensuring that food security is extended to the poorest sections of the population, which otherwise may not be able to afford essential items.
Improve Livelihoods and Health: By providing subsidized food grains, the Green Ration Card contributes to the economic empowerment of vulnerable families, allowing them to allocate more resources toward other essential needs like healthcare, education, and housing.
Reduce Hunger and Malnutrition: With access to subsidized food grains, families are better positioned to overcome hunger and malnutrition, particularly those in remote and rural areas of the state.
Promote Digital Inclusion and Transparency: The Telangana government has integrated technology into the Green Ration Card system to ensure transparency and reduce corruption. The state aims to digitize the entire process of ration distribution, making it more efficient and accountable.
